Forget the usual burger chains that turn out Frankenstein patties dressed up as “Bristol’s Best Burgers”. The Bristol burger scene is booming right now and it’s all thanks to independent establishments. These guys are doing something chains can’t: they’re taking the classic burger and giving it that Bristol flair by utilising great local produce, passion, and creativity that this city has so much of.

That being said, there’s certainly a lot of burgers out there and you shouldn’t waste your time on something other than the best. So how does one identify the pioneers of this scene? The burgers that offer much more than your run of the mill patty, bun, and limp-leafed lettuce? Here’s our guide to the biggest and best burgers this fair city has to offer.

Meet the Mild West Bunslinger: the Bear Grillz trademark beef patty, with streaky bacon, smoked cheddar, flame grilled peppers, BearBQ sauce, and maple syrup. This is just one twist on the classic that the Bear Grillz guys knock up at their residence in the Green Man – and it’s seriously big!

If you’re into American style burgers with patties stacked high in brioche buns, then the Three Brothers’ burger is just for you: and finished off with American mustard. Almost too good to be true.

You lucky things. Choose between the house classic beef burger or the halloumi burger, and pocket a couple of extra sides (one apiece) – your options are between fries, slaw or onion rings. It’s a rare chance to catch these boys visiting from London and their Camden Brewery home, and they’re bringing with them some hard fought lessons about the burger game.

“That’s not a burger – that’s a bagel!” we hear you cry. Relax. This is the Original Boy and it’s reinventing the burger game. It’s a homemade beef patty, swiss cheese, gherkins, tomatoes, leaves, and burger relish served up in a bagel of their own making. Get down to Bagel Boy for a piece of this action.

Starting their life as a street food trader, Chomp quickly established a name for themselves as the best burgers in Bristol. And this is why: The House Classic is a work of art. Beef patty, parmesan mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle & onion and finally a good lashing of ketchup and mustard. We took it one step further and doubled up the patties for good measure – why not?
